This month students at Memorial school are learning about Shape as an Element of Art. Artist in the second grade discovered many ways a square could be folded to make different shapes. They then folded 12 squares the same way. Once papers were folded, the children had an opportunity to "play around" with their new folded shapes to create a unique shape design. Once arrangement were made that the artist liked, they glued their folded squares on paper. As a class we also discussed how repetition of a same shape can make an artist' work looking interesting.
